Genetic Algorithm Synthesis of Low-Loss Multi-layer Negative Index Metamaterial Stacks for the Mid-Infrared

چکیده
In order to realize practical applications for negative index metamaterials at optical wavelengths, it is necessary to develop design and fabrication techniques for bulk materials. This paper presents one such design methodology employing stacked Frequency Selective Surfaces optimized using a Genetic Algorithm for low loss and a negative refractive index. A design example is presented, showing that the loss can be minimized by optimizing a 5-layer stack. Further analysis reveals that the metamaterial properties of the stack are approaching those of a bulk medium.

Optical negative-index bulk metamaterials consisting of 2D perforated metal-dielectric stacks.
Numerical simulations of a near-infrared negative-index metamaterial (NIM) slab consisting of multiple layers of perforated metal-dielectric stacks exhibiting a small imaginary part of the index over the wavelength range for negative refraction are presented. A consistent effective index is obtained using both scattering matrix and modal analysis approaches. Backward phase propagation is verifi...

متن کاملModeling of measurement error in refractive index determination of fuel cell using neural network and genetic algorithm
Abstract: In this paper, a method for determination of refractive index in membrane of fuel cell on basis of three-longitudinal-mode laser heterodyne interferometer is presented. The optical path difference between the target and reference paths is fixed and phase shift is then calculated in terms of refractive index shift. The measurement accuracy of this system is limited by nonlinearity erro...

In this paper, we examine the close relationship that exists between the phenomenon of electromagnetic (EM) wave tunneling through stacks of single-negative metamaterial slabs and classical microwave filter theory. In particular, we examine the propagation of EM waves through a generalized multi-layer structure composed of N 2-negative layers separated from each other by N − 1 μnegative layers,...
متن کاملA New Circular Polarization Metamaterial Ferrite Phase Shifter
In this paper, a new X band Metamaterial (MTM) based ferrite phase shifter is presented. The phase shifter is excited by circular polarized wave base on combination of TE10 and TE01 modes in a square waveguide. In order to synthesize negative refractive index metamaterial (NIM), negative permeability of ferrite slabs in extraordinary mode is mixed with the negative permitivity of printed period...
